Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Comes to Springdale

Hello, I Am Northwest Arkansas® Community ,

A Quick Thank You Before we dive into this week's episode, I want to give a shoutout to the amazing group of folks who joined us this morning for our second-ever coffee event at the Stonebreaker Club up on Markham Hill. Great conversations, great coffee, and even greater community—thank you for showing up!

Now, Back to Our Latest Episode We're back with another inspiring story—this time featuring world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athlete, teacher, and Springdale's newest entrepreneur, Ismael Santos! If you've ever been curious about martial arts, want a new path to wellness, or simply love hearing about people making a positive difference in NWA, this episode is for you.

From Fortaleza, Brazil to Northwest Arkansas Ismael's journey began in the vibrant streets of Fortaleza, Brazil, where he fell in love with Jiu-Jitsu as a teenager. Through determination, discipline, and a little help from friends in NWA, Ismael made the leap from competitor to mentor—now opening his own academy, Yosai Jiu-Jitsu, right here in Springdale.

Why Jiu-Jitsu? In the episode, Ismael shares how Jiu-Jitsu transformed his life, helping him overcome bullying and channel his competitive spirit into personal growth. He breaks down the art for beginners, explaining the difference between Japanese and Brazilian styles and how grappling skills empower people of all ages.

Whether you're 5 or 72, Ismael believes Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone and customizes his teaching to each student's body, mind, and goals. Discipline, curiosity, and asking the right questions are at the heart of his philosophy—on and off the mat.

Brazilian Roots in Springdale Step into Yosai Jiu-Jitsu, and you'll feel Brazil in the music, the language, and the warm, welcoming vibes. Ismael's mission goes beyond competition—he aims to build a community, help people live healthier lives, and inspire the next generation through the lessons of martial arts.
